India Set to Commission Second Nuclear-Powered Ballistic Missile Submarine, INS Arighat (S3)
New Delhi, India – In a significant milestone for India’s naval capabilities, the Indian Navy is scheduled to commission its second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN), INS Arighat (S3), tomorrow. The submarine, part of the Arihant class, is a testament to India’s growing prowess in indigenous submarine design and construction.
INS Arighat (S3) is equipped to carry a formidable arsenal of four K-4 or twelve K-15 submarine-launched ballistic missiles, providing India with a robust deterrence capability. The submarine’s nuclear powerplant allows for extended patrols and enhanced stealth, making it a valuable asset for India’s strategic deterrence.
The commissioning of INS Arighat (S3) marks a significant step forward in India’s pursuit of a nuclear triad, complementing its land-based and air-based nuclear capabilities. This development underscores India’s commitment to enhancing its national security and maintaining a credible minimum deterrence.
The Arihant class submarines are designed and built by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and constructed at the Ship Building Centre (SBC) in Visakhapatnam. The commissioning of INS Arighat (S3) is a proud moment for India’s defence indigenization efforts.
With the addition of INS Arighat (S3) to its fleet, the Indian Navy significantly enhances its capabilities, ensuring a stronger and more secure India.
