India has successfully conducted the first flight-test of a Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) from the Integrated Test Range in Odisha. This achievement marks a significant milestone for India’s defense capabilities.
The LRLACM is a fully indigenous project with contributions from local industries. It was developed in partnership with Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited, which assisted in the missile’s integration and deployment.
Key Features of LRLACM:
•Long-Range Capability: With a planned range exceeding 1,000 kilometers, the LRLACM will enhance India’s military strength, especially for naval operations.
•Multi-Platform Launch: The missile can be launched from both mobile ground platforms and ships using a Universal Vertical Launch Module (UVLM) system.
•Terrain-Hugging Flight Path: The missile’s ability to follow terrain-hugging flight paths makes it harder to detect and intercept, offering a strategic advantage.
The successful test demonstrated the missile’s precision waypoint navigation and complex maneuverability at varying altitudes and speeds. Around 20 additional test flights are planned, positioning the LRLACM to play a vital role in India’s defense strategy.
