Leh, India – September 2024: The Indian Army is making significant strides in enhancing its operational capabilities with two landmark initiatives—HIM-DRONE-A-THON 2 and HIMTECH-2024. These initiatives are designed to promote the use of indigenous defense technologies tailored for high-altitude environments, furthering India’s vision of self-reliance (Atmanirbharta) and contributing toward the nation’s goal of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
HIM-DRONE-A-THON 2: Pioneering Drone Solutions for High Altitudes
HIM-DRONE-A-THON 2, set to take place on 17-18 September 2024 near Leh, will offer a platform for the Indian drone industry to showcase innovative solutions specifically designed for high-altitude operations. The event will be held at altitudes ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 meters, replicating the extreme conditions of mountainous terrain.
The Indian Army is keen to tap into drone technology that can function efficiently in these harsh environments, providing critical capabilities in surveillance, communication, and logistics. The event is expected to attract drone manufacturers, defense experts, and startups looking to contribute to India’s military modernization efforts.
HIMTECH-2024: Forging Advanced Technologies for Border Operations
Following HIM-DRONE-A-THON 2, HIMTECH-2024 will be held from 20-21 September 2024, also in Leh. This event, organized in partnership with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), will focus on developing advanced technologies and systems to tackle the unique challenges of India’s northern borders.
The initiative will bring together leaders from the defense industry, academia, and tech developers to collaborate on solutions in areas like mobility, surveillance, and communications. HIMTECH-2024 aims to position Leh as a hub for defense technology development, fostering innovation and enhancing India’s border security.
Supporting India’s Long-Term Defense Vision
Both HIM-DRONE-A-THON 2 and HIMTECH-2024 are aligned with the Indian Army’s strategy to harness homegrown technologies and reduce reliance on foreign systems. These initiatives reflect India’s broader goal of strengthening its defense capabilities and ensuring preparedness for operations in some of the most challenging terrains in the world.
As India looks toward its centenary celebrations in 2047, these events mark a key milestone in the country’s journey toward self-reliance and advanced military capabilities.
